Maersk - Carrier Security Charge from January 2010
.
Dear valued customer,
Please see below announcement for changes in our SER from Usd 6 to Usd 9 as from January 2010.
Carrier Security Charge : SER
Current Amount : $6 per container
Effective 1st of January 2010 : $9 per container Carrier Security
Charge was implemented in 2004 in response to costs associated with 9/11 security initiatives.
Experiencing direct operational costs as a result of the ISPS Compliance Security charges
were introduced. The value of this charge which is $6 has not been changed since 2004.
Due to increase in administrative expenses and currency fluctuations,
ML has decided to increase this surcharge to 9$. All ML vessels comply with the ISPS
requirements and have obtained the International Ship Security Certificate.
Below are listed the main items needed for certification:
* Designating facility, ship, and company security officers
* Conducting ship and facility security assessments
* Developing ship and facility security plans
* Providing security training commensurate with job function
* Instituting access control
* Designating restricted areas
* Implementing facility/ship interface
* Conducting security monitoring
For Maersk Line the costs identified fall into three categories:
1. Vessel related security measures including certification of all Maersk Sealand vessels
and investments in security equipment, as well as costs associated with schedule
proforma changes and vessel delays resulting from security issues.
2. Security costs associated with transhipment of full containers as well as
inspections of empty containers
3. Administration expenses related to security charges
