IPBCC Member Lines would refer to their Notice issued on 29th November 2007, in which they informed the trade that following the introduction by feeder operators serving Chennai via Singapore, Port Kelang and Colombo, of a Chennai Trade Surcharge (USD 100/teu), they had no alternative other than to pass this additional cost directly on to their customers.
Member Lines are now able to report that following the decision by feeder operators to remove their Trade Surcharge, the conference surcharge will also be withdrawn
Withdrawal of the surcharge will take place as follows:
Westbound - All feeder sailings ex Chennai (bills of lading dated on or after Friday 11th January 2008).
Eastbound - All mainline departures ex European ports (bills of lading dated on or after Friday 11th January 2008).
Member Lines will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep their customers informed of any future developments.
